The OECD Anti-bribery Convention establishes legally binding standards to criminalise bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions. South Africa is a non-member country of the OECD but has adopted this Convention. South Africa became a party to the Convention in 2007. The Convention establishes a monitoring mechanism to ensure that obligations under the Convention are carried out.
